Chris Hammond is the founder and director of MOT, now MOT INTERNATIONAL, and his practice as a curator and artist is grounded in the core structure and strategies of the gallery.
He has curated more than 50 exhibitions and worked with established artists such as Mike Kelley, Martin Kippenberger, Rodney Graham, Paul McCarthy, Liam Gillick, Martin Creed, Sarah Lucas, Franz West, Jon Thompson, Sonia Boyce, Mark Wallinger, Ben Nicholson, Derek Jarman, Stephen Willats, Louise Lawler, Ulrich Strothjohann, Lawrence Weiner, Christopher Wool, Mark Titchner, Omer Fast, Rachel Harrison Runa Islam, Jeremy Deller and Matthew Higgs.
His projects have attracted an International audience with many of his exhibitions receiving critical acclaim in the pages of frieze, Flash Art, Art Forum, Art Monthly, Untitled, Contemporary, Art Review, The Guardian, The Times, The Independent, Big Issue, AN, and Time Out.
Teaching
Chris has served as a visiting lecturer at the Ruskin School of Art, the Royal College of Art, the Goethe Institute, Chelsea School of Art and the Serpentine Gallery, among others.
Professional projects
Chris is the founder and director of MOT (2002), now MOT INTERNATIONAL (2006).
He served as an advisor and consultant for the Arts Council of England (2007) and Birmingham City Council.
He has worked as the director and curator for Shock Corridor (1999-2000) and the video and live art curator for OMSK (1997-2001). He has also been involved in gallery start-ups for West Midlands, University of the Arts and SPACE Studios Gallery programme's edication and international residencies.
