Our civic mission
We are changing the way that we work with local partners and communities to help make a difference locally.
Working with partners and communities, we are committed to making a positive impact in our local area.
Goldsmiths has a long history of local engagement. From our founding in 1891 as a technical College to serve the local community in New Cross, we have committed to making a difference through teaching, research, knowledge exchange and public engagement.
We were among the first universities in the UK to develop a Civic University Agreement, committing us to working even more closely with other local anchor institutions to find solutions to shared challenges, relating to:
- Inclusive education and opportunities for life
- Shared prosperity, decent jobs and fair growth
- Culture, community and belonging
- Climate action, sustainability and good health
