Complaints relating to industrial action
We recognise that industrial action may affect students in different ways. This may include disruption to teaching, supervision, or other learning opportunities, as well as delays to marking, feedback, results, or progression.
We recognise that industrial action may affect students in different ways. This may include disruption to teaching, supervision, or other learning opportunities, as well as delays to marking, feedback, results, or progression.
The process for raising a complaint depends on the academic year in which you experienced the disruption.
Industrial action in the 2025/26 academic year
Students who were affected by industrial action during the 2025/26 academic year can submit a complaint once their final results and progression outcome for 2025/26 have been formally confirmed through a ratified transcript.
You can use this process to complain about the impact of industrial action on your experience during 2025/26. This includes both the direct impact of industrial action and the impact of delays to marking and assessment.
For example, your complaint may concern:
- Missed or disrupted teaching, supervision or other learning opportunities
- Reduced access to academic support or learning resources
- Delays to marking, feedback or the publication of results
- Delays or difficulties affecting progression, graduation, further study or employment
- Additional costs or other financial consequences
- Impacts on your wellbeing or other aspects of your student experience
You should explain what happened, how you were personally affected, and any steps that were taken to mitigate the impact. Where possible, you should provide evidence to support the issues and impacts described in your complaint.
Complaints relating to industrial action in 2025/26 will be considered at Stage Two of the Student Complaints Procedure. Complaints will be considered individually, taking account of the particular circumstances and impact experienced by each student.
If your final 2025/26 results have not yet been confirmed, you should wait until your ratified transcript has been published before submitting your complaint. This allows us to consider the overall impact of the industrial action on your 2025/26 academic experience.
Where waiting for your final results would cause you significant disadvantage, you should contact the Student Casework Team for advice at complaints (@gold.ac.uk).
Industrial action in the 2026/27 academic year
Industrial action is continuing during the 2026/27 academic year. We recognise that this may affect students in different ways and that the nature and extent of any disruption may vary between programmes and individual students.
We are currently considering the arrangements for complaints relating to industrial action during the 2026/27 academic year. This includes how and when students will be able to raise concerns about the impact of ongoing industrial action.
Students do not need to submit a complaint about industrial action experienced during 2026/27 at this stage. Further information about the complaints process, including when and how complaints can be submitted, will be published on this page once arrangements have been confirmed.
In the meantime, we recommend that students keep a record of any disruption they experience and retain any relevant communications or other evidence relating to its impact.
